Welcome from the LMS Magnet Coordinator

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for your interest in Bob Lanier Middle School! Choosing the right middle school is an important decision, and we are excited to introduce you to what makes Lanier such a unique place to learn and grow.

Lanier is proud to be one of the most diverse and inclusive campuses in HISD, welcoming students from more than 70 elementary schools and from across the city, state, country, and world. As the only Vanguard Magnet and International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme World School in HISD, we offer students a distinctive middle school experience centered on academic excellence, opportunity, and belonging.

Our Vanguard Magnet Progam serves students identified as Gifted and Talented (G/T) through rigorous core academics that promote critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and advanced problem-solving. Approximately two-thirds of our students participate in the Vanguard program, creating a vibrant community of learners who are encouraged to think deeply, take intellectual risks, and reach their academic potential.

Our International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme is schoolwide, meaning every Lanier student benefits from the IB experience. All students take courses across eight subject areas:

• Mathematics
• Science
• Individuals & Societies
• Language & Literature
• Language Acquisition
• Physical and Health Education
• Arts
• Design

Together, Vanguard and IB provide students with a well-rounded education that extends beyond academics. Students have opportunities to explore their interests, develop leadership skills, serve their community, and become thoughtful, globally minded learners.

We know finding the just-right middle school for your child can feel overwhelming. As you explore your options, I encourage you to consider what matters most to your family, including academic programs, courses, extracurricular opportunities, diversity, campus culture, location, enrollment size, and overall school environment.

The best way to determine whether Lanier is the right fit is to experience our campus for yourself. We invite you to join us for a tour, meet our community, and discover what it means to be a Lanier Purple Pup.

We look forward to welcoming you!
