Lanier Middle School is proud to be the only Vanguard Magnet and International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme in Houston ISD.

Our curriculum recognizes the importance of a well-rounded education combining the IB MYP curriculum of core classes: English, Individuals & Societies, Mathematics, Science; as well as elective courses consisting of Language Acquisition, Movement, Arts, and Design courses which engage students in higher-order thinking across subjects. Giving students more opportunities to expand their knowledge outside of the campus  to the larger community. This helps students to realize their place in and of the world to become productive and proactive citizens and lifelong learners. All Lanier students participate in the IB Middle Years Programme.

Students who are identified as Gifted or Talented are a part of our Vanguard Magnet program and receive specialized G/T instruction. Our Vanguard program provides rigorous, engaging learning experiences across the four core academic areas-math, science, English language arts, and social studies.
