Bob Lanier Middle School in Houston has a long-standing tradition of academic excellence and community involvement. Named after former Houston mayor Bob Lanier, the school has been a nurturing ground for students who go on to make significant contributions in various fields. Its rich history is reflected in the diverse accomplishments of its alumni, who have excelled in journalism, politics, sports, and the arts.

  • Walter Cronkite: Legendary journalist known as "the most trusted man in America," Walter Cronkite anchored CBS Evening News for over two decades. His coverage shaped public opinion on major events like the Apollo moon landing and the Vietnam War.

  • Denton Cooley: A pioneering heart surgeon, Denton Cooley performed the first successful heart transplant in the U.S. and founded the Texas Heart Institute. His innovations revolutionized cardiac surgery.

  • Linda Ellerbee: Award-winning journalist and producer, Linda Ellerbee is celebrated for her witty and insightful news reporting, especially on NBC News Overnight. She has been a trailblazer for women in broadcast journalism.

  • Mark White: Serving as Governor of Texas from 1983 to 1987, Mark White championed education reform and criminal justice improvements. His leadership helped modernize state policies during a transformative era.

  • Fred Hofheinz: As Mayor of Houston, Fred Hofheinz played a key role in the city’s urban development and infrastructure growth during the late 1970s. His tenure focused on economic expansion and civic planning.

  • Bianna Golodryga: Bianna Golodryga is a respected ABC News correspondent known for her in-depth reporting on global and political issues. She brings sharp insight and clarity to complex stories.

  • Emeka Okafor: Emeka Okafor is a former NBA player recognized for his defensive skills and leadership on the court. He won the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 2005.

  • Carli Mosier: Carli Mosier is a talented voice actress best known for her roles in popular anime series.
